Open listening doorways – and discover how heightened listening skills learned from the Indigenous legacies of receiving a story, story-telling, story guardianship, and story release and healing.

This course will support your capacity as a guardian of stories, as a relational human, as a communicator and as a creator.

Listening is a layered art, and those layers are an inherent part of traditional storytelling and the approach to wānanga (Māori ‘schools of learning’). Lore, truth and revelation are continually held, awaiting the listener’s arrival, revealed for you and by you in reciprocity.

Explore listening through your 11 senses. We play with the chemistry of resonance, readiness, and relationship and its impact on the listener. Practice the art of Mirroring; the potent offering of a person’s story back to them.

Here is what students of Language of Listening have to say:

“Stop. Listen. Feel. Hāweatea is gifted at guiding participants through this process because of her inherent gifts as matakite (intuitive), and two decades of work as a professional listener. This is a fusion of indigenous ancestry and the psychology of meaning-making. I can honestly say there is no better guide or teacher. Participation in her wānanga (courses) has been monumental in my uncovering of what she calls the ‘reverse gift’ of life’s challenges.”

~Donelle Manihera

“Hāweatea is a very talented and skilled facilitator. She see’s below the surface of people’s words and asks pivotal questions… She skillfully illuminates the truth and from this, I saw women able to let down their guard and practice being true to themselves.”

~Tiffany Higgins, Rooted Within Veteran Retreats

Here is what students of Finding the Stories That Shape Your Journey Through Life have to say:

“Joel is a knowledgeable, compassionate and wise storytelling coach and teacher. Using prompts, tutelage and gentle guidance he has helped me unearth stories that were so deeply buried  I didn’t know they existed.  These recaptured memories and the glue I call love have allowed me to build tales of family that speak of violence, alcoholism, abandonment, courage, grace, humor, kindness and wisdom…and to tie these tales to who I am and how I got here. I am particularly  grateful when people, on hearing my stories, say thank you…I’ve been there too.”

~Gerry

“Working with Joel has helped me discover recurring themes in my life…. The work we did on my post-divorce years led me to see how much fun I had in spite of traumatic heartbreaks… I used to see those times as sad and embarrassing, but now I see them as adventures and living my life to its fullest – I wouldn’t change a thing.”

~Claire
