Discover The Palace of Memory

Ancient Roman orators constructed what they called a “Memory Palace,” an imaginary palace filled with visual representations of the subjects they wished to address. What does your own Memory Palace look like? What lavish images decorate its walls, what waltzes in the ballroom, dreams in the bedrooms, simmers in the kitchen, huddles in the attic? Memory is an incredibly rich wellspring of material, and writing is an unrivaled means of exploring it.
In this workshop, we will use guided exercises and meditation to help us excavate and explore our memories through our writing. How do we experience memory? Which memories are ripe for further investigation, for learning and revelation? How do we turn powerful memories into compelling stories? We will discuss how to locate and render those memories that wield particular power in the telling, and we will also explore the process of reconstructing and crafting memory into captivating narrative.

This workshop is for you if:

  • You’re ready to open the creative channel, mine the riches of your life, and offer your stories as medicine to the world.

In this course, you will experience:

  • In a safe and sacred space, you’ll identify which areas of your life you’re drawn to explore further.
  • You’ll do some freewriting to open the creative channel.
  • Through a guided meditation, you’ll go deeper into the treasure chest of memory.
  • You’ll write from this soul-connected place.
  • You’ll share with your peers.
  • And you’ll learn some keys to making your writing voice as powerful and compelling as possible.

Though fairy tales end after ten pages,
our lives do not.
We are multi-volume sets. In our lives,
even though one episode amounts to a crash and burn,
there is always another episode awaiting us and then another.
